History of Aquilla Creek Cottage
This building originally was built circa 1880's as part of the family legal liquor business (I.C. Shore & Co. Distillers, Rectifiers and Shippers of Pure Whiskeys) which was located approx. one mile from the spot it is now standing. It was the building where the barrels of whiskey were stored.
After the the distillery was closed, it was moved, in the early 1900's, to where it stands today, to be a "Tobacco Packing" house . It was used as a Tobacco Pack house up until the late 1960's, early 1970's. (A Tobacco Packing house is where the tobacco was sorted and bundled before it was taken to market.) After which the structure was used as a storage building.

Looking at the dilapidating building in our yard over the years and knowing the history of the structure, we were unsure what to do with it. With the growing Yadkin Valley wineries and grape vineyards in our area, we thought what better way to preserve our building than to renovate it into a cozy comfortable cottage to give visitors to the area a unique tranquil place to stay and to carry on our family history for another hundred years and future generations.
